About Andrea’s Animal Rescue (AAR)
Andrea’s Animal Rescue started in 2008, the charity was formed primarily for ill-treated donkeys, as during this time a donkey called Henrietta, who had several tumours was in their care after being rescued. Henrietta was found abandoned by the side of the motorway with tumours so severe that she urgently needed treatment at the veterinary hospital in Murcia. With costs of 2500 euros they immediately commenced fund raising, by selling unwanted items at local car boot sales, which then gave them the idea of opening their first shop.
They raised much needed funds for the abandoned and mistreated donkeys and other animals that they went on to rescue. The charity was then named, Andrea’s Animal Rescue and The Henrietta Foundation after the passing of Henrietta who sadly died after developing a blood disorder.
The charity now has 90 plus donkeys and ponies in their care, in the peaceful and tranquil surroundings of their 10 acre Sanctuary near Lorca, where they have the freedom to spend their days happily roaming around and being cared for. At AAR they strive to rescue and rehabilitate all equines from cruelty and neglect and treat them with the love and kindness that they all deserve.

Andrea’s Animal Rescue now have two busy charity shops, one in Roldan and the other in Mazarron where all the profits go towards the huge feeding and care costs of the animals at the sanctuary.
There is also a sponsor a donkey scheme which is a great way for people to donate and help with the much needed funds from just 20 euros a month.
